Japan Fails To Nudge G7 On Joint Fiscal Expansion, Poised To Delay Tax Hike
1 hour, 7 minutes ago (at
The language that came out of the G-7 meetings was weaker than what Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had hoped for. Japan wanted G-7 leaders to note "the risk of the global economy ... falling into a crisis if we did not take appropriate policy responses in a timely manner." Instead, G-7 decided each country had its own economic agenda, noting they will take "into account country-specific circumstances" as they move to use "all policy tools -- monetary, fiscal and structural -- individually and collectively to strengthen global demand and address supply constraints while continuing our efforts to put debt on a sustainable path." In other words, each country is on its own. This blog noted a week ago that Japan finds in Germany its biggest obstacle.
