Telvent to Install E-ZPass On Newport-Pell Bridge
Wednesday August 20, 2008 7:32 am ET

MADRID, Spain, Aug. 20, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (NasdaqGS:TLVT - News), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to implement an E-ZPass toll collection system on the Newport-Pell Bridge by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA).

RITBA's mission is to facilitate vehicular traffic over the Mount Hope Bay and the East Passage of the Narragansett Bay by operating and maintaining its two suspension bridges -- the Claiborne Pell Bridge built in 1969 and the Mount Hope Bridge built in 1929. The structures are integral to the travel in the coastal area of Rhode Island and its neighbouring states.

The project involves the design, development, installation and maintenance of an E-ZPass electronic toll collection system to be completed by early 2009. The conversion of the existing RITBA token system to the electronic E-ZPass system will increase patron convenience and improve traffic flow, reducing traffic congestion and vehicular emissions that cause pollution. Telvent will install a complete electronic toll collection system on 10 toll lanes including hardware and software, and provide a central host computer system to process, store and report RITBA toll transactions and revenue.

``We are excited to be working with Telvent, a leader in the electronic toll collecting industry,'' said David Darlington, Chairman of the Board of RITBA. ``With their experience and expertise, we feel the Authority's move to 21st century technology is in very capable hands.''

Manuel Sanchez, Telvent's Chairman, stated, ``Telvent is delighted to expand upon our relationship with the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. We look forward to working diligently with RITBA to provide its patrons with a system that will increase throughput and the quality of life.''

This project will be the first installation of E-ZPass in the state of Rhode Island. Both, the Authority and a supportive Governor, along with the General Assembly, and Congressional Delegation are excited about the project and look forward to providing users and the residents of Rhode Island with an added travel convenience.
