| Is Your Soul Mate Your Money Match Make sure You and Your Partner are a Financial Fit By Suze
Orman Hey, not that anyone at Yahoo! Personals asked me, but I've got a killer idea. Why not include a few screening questions
that would show how a person handles money issues? Oh, I know, it's not terribly romantic, but I can guarantee that if you
take up with someone who doesn't share your beliefs about spending and saving, that relationship is going to be in for some
rocky times.
It really is true: how we approach our financial responsibilities is one of the most important litmus tests for a healthy
relationship. Whether you are currently looking for Mr. or Ms. Right, or have been married for 20 years, it's imperative to
have true financial intimacy between the two of you, which means that you both truly understand each other's motivations,
fears, and goals when it comes to managing money. From that intimate understanding, you can build a financially compatible
partnership. But if you go into a relationship without discussing these important issues - or currently find yourself in one
full of money stress - I am here to warn you that someday, however much you love each other, the relationship may well end
up
emotionally bankrupt.
And I hope you don't think that what I'm talking about is whether or not someone makes enough money. It's not about how
much
someone makes. It's about how we deal with the money we are making. In the same way relationships force you to confront
every intimate personal detail about your love - whether they leave the toilet seat up or their bra on the door knob - it is
that much more important for you to come to terms with every intimate financial detail as well. So let's get fiscal
together.
Quiz: Are You a Fiscal Fool or Money Maven?
Take this quiz to find out what you need to work on when it comes to managing your money. Send it off to your "soul
mate"
as well to
see how he or she does. more...
Honey, We Need to Talk…
Once you have both taken the quiz, use it as an opportunity to talk honestly about how each of you feels about money.
Of course I also want you to do some talking about how you can come together and create a partnership of Money
Mavens. Because if you make responsible fiscal decisions, you are going to live a life of abundance. To become
financially compatible, you need to work together to find the areas where you can learn from each other and to find
ways to compromise when you can't agree. As with most issues in a relationship, communication is the key to creating
a strong financial bond. more...
