| The investment seeks as high a level of current income as is consistent with the preservation of capital. The fund normally invests all of assets in municipal bonds that provide income exempt from federal, New York State and New York City personal income taxes. The dollar-weighted average maturity of the funds portfolio normally exceeds ten years, but it may invest without regard to maturity. The fund may invest up to 20% of assets in municipal bonds rated below investment grade (high yield or junk bonds) or the unrated equivalent as determined by Dreyfus. It is nondiversified. |
