| Commerce Bancshares, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides various banking services to individuals and businesses. The company’s activities include underwriting credit life and credit accident and health insurance; selling property and casualty insurance; venture capital investment; securities brokerage; mortgage banking; and leasing. It operates in three segments: Consumer, Commercial, and Money Management. The Consumer segment offers retail branch network, consumer installment lending, personal mortgage banking, bank card activities, student lending, and discount brokerage services. The Commercial segment provides corporate lending, leasing, and international services, as well as business and government deposit and cash management services. The Money Management segment offers traditional trust and estate tax planning services, and advisory and discretionary investment portfolio management services to personal and institutional corporate customers. It also manages the company’s proprietary mutual funds, which are available for sale to trust and general retail customers. As of December 31, 2007, the company operated a network of 210 branches and 392 automated teller machines. It operates in Missouri, eastern Kansas, and central Illinois, as well as Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Denver, Colorado. The company was founded in 1966 and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. |
