The company’s Borders superstores segment offer books, bargain books, music, movies, and periodical titles across various categories, which include jazz, classical, and world music, as well as a range of DVDs focusing on new release and catalog movies. It also provides gifts and stationery, as well as feature cafes. Its Waldenbooks Specialty Retail stores segment operates small format stores in malls, airports, and outlet malls that offer new releases, hardcover, and paperback periodicals, as well as a selection of other titles. The company’s International stores segment operates superstores in Australia and New Zealand. As of February 2, 2008, the company operated 541 superstores under the Borders name, including 509 in the United States, 22 in Australia, 5 in New Zealand, 3 in Puerto Rico, and 2 in Singapore. It also operated 490 mall-based and other bookstores, including stores operated under the Waldenbooks, Borders Express, and Borders Outlet names, as well as Borders-branded airport stores; and owned and operated Paperchase Products Limited, a designer and retailer of stationery, cards, and gifts that operated 112 stores, primarily in the United Kingdom.
