Hospital for Special Surgery Licenses Mediware's BiologiCare Prestigious New York Surgical Hospital Adopts New Product to Focus on Safety and Efficiency of Tissues LENEXA, KS--(MARKET WIRE)--Nov 4, 2008 -- Mediware
Information Systems, Inc. (NasdaqCM:MEDW - News) announced that
the Hospital
for Special Surgery has licensed BiologiCare(TM), the Company's
latest
product focused on the safe and efficient management of
bones, tissues and
other biologic products used in surgeries and other patient
therapies.
Released in June 2008 as one of Mediware's growth initiatives,
BiologiCare
leverages the Company's more than 25 years of blood management
experience
to address emerging needs within the hospital. BiologiCare
is the first
commercial-grade system available in the United States that
is designed
specifically to track and trace these materials. Driving the need for BiologiCare are an estimated 10 million transplantation procedures that have now been performed. Hospital procedures range from the use of bone chips, tendons and other tissues in surgeries, organ replacements, and marrow and stem cell transplantations in more advanced therapies. BiologiCare provides an enterprise-wide, automated system to track where these materials were obtained, where and how they are stored, and where they were used. More than 50 percent of U.S. hospitals perform transplantation procedures. Using BiologiCare, hospitals are able to centralize management of bone, tissue and other biologic material in a robust clinical information system to meet regulatory requirements for patient safety. "There is currently not a viable enterprise solution to manage these materials so we are pleased that the market response for BiologiCare has been very positive," said Mann. "Our product development teams have been very responsive to the market needs and we are pleased to be positioned to address these important safety and efficiency concerns." Launched in June 2008, Mediware has been actively marketing BiologiCare through educational web casts since March. More than 200 prestigious facilities have expressed interest in the software. "We are pleased to extend our relationship with HSS through this new initiative," said Kelly Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "As one of the nation's premier surgical institutions, we look forward to working with HSS to complete a successful implementation of BiologiCare."
