Intersil Cell Balancing IC Named Finalist for Prestigious Elektra 2008 Semiconductor of the Year Award
Friday October 31, 2008 2:47 pm ET

MUNICH, GERMANY--(MARKET WIRE)--Oct 31, 2008 -- ELECTRONICA -- Intersil Corporation (NasdaqGS:ISIL - News), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog semiconductors, today announced that the company's ISL9208 Cell Balancing IC has been nominated for the prestigious Semiconductor Product of the Year Award at the European Electronics Industry Awards, The Elektra Awards 2008, to be held in Munich on Monday, November 10, 2008.

The ISL9208 was previously selected as the 2008 Portable Design China magazine's Best Power Consumption Performing Device and was a 2007 EDN Innovation of the Year Award Finalist.

The ISL9208 debuted as the industry's first integrated analog front end for cell balancing and overcurrent protection in multi-cell li-ion battery packs. In portable designs (like laptops and rechargeable power tools), the ISL9208 can replace as many as 17 FETS, 12 diodes, 53 resistors and 31 capacitors. It increases battery system efficiency by performing and monitoring battery packs to protect against high current and can balance five to seven 28V to 50V cells.

This year's Elektra 2008 event will take place at the Hilton Munich Park Hotel next to the English Garden and will be a kick-off of sorts for the Electronica 2008 Trade Fair, which will begin Tuesday, November 11 in Munich.

The Elektra Awards 2008 are organized by Electronics Weekly and Reed Electronics Group and the Semiconductor Product of the Year is sponsored by Publitek.

Pricing and Availability

The ISL9208 is available now in a 32-lead QFN package and is priced at $3.51 each in 1,000-unit quantities. More information on the ISL9208 is available at http://www.intersil.com/cda/deviceinfo/0,1477,ISL9208,0.html
