What Can You Do in 48 Seconds? EMBARQ Wants to Know
Monday October 6, 2008 9:00 am ET

Enter Your Video and You Could Win $5,000 and a Year of Free High-Speed Internet

OVERLAND PARK, KS--(MARKET WIRE)--Oct 6, 2008 -- Forty-eight seconds is the amount of extra time it takes to download an average Web page with dial-up Internet as opposed to EMBARQ® High-Speed Internet. Instead of wasting all those seconds, EMBARQ wants to see what you can do, learn, perform or create with that time, so it has launched the EMBARQ® 48 Seconds Video Contest.

Can you tell your life story, paint a replica of the Mona Lisa on your fingernail, read a book from cover to cover, choreograph a dance routine or come up with a faster way to make a grilled cheese sandwich?

Whatever it is that you can master in 48 seconds, videotape it, go to the YouTube channel featuring the EMBARQ® contest at www.youtube.com/embarq and upload your video. The first 50 people to upload a qualifying video will win $50, and the five video finalists win a Flip Video Ultra Camcorder by Pure Digital. The top five videos will be posted on YouTube. The person whose video receives the most votes wins $5,000 and a year of free EMBARQ® High-Speed Internet.

"More people are watching online video than ever before, but dial-up Internet connections often make the process frustrating and tedious because of its slower speed," said Dan Alcazar, EMBARQ® Consumer Marketing Officer. "We created the 48 Seconds Video Contest as a fun way for people to share what they can do with all the time they get back with EMBARQ® High-Speed Internet."

According to a 2008 study from Nielsen's NetViews and NetRatings, an estimated 119 million unique visitors watched 7.5 billion video streams online during the month of May alone. A 2007 study by Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 66 percent of people with high-speed connections at home watched online video, while only 39 percent of dial-up users did.

The 48-seconds claim is based on standard dial-up services as compared to EMBARQ® High-Speed Internet service. Visit www.embarq.com/hsi for further details.
