Anoto Digital Pen Technology to Be Presented With New HIM Tools at AHIMA Educational Session Anoto and Its Partner Scantron Will Also Exhibit and Demonstrate Digital Pen and Paper Technology at Booth #2406 BOSTON, MA--(MARKET WIRE)--Oct 6, 2008 -- Anoto (Stockholm:ANOT.ST - News), the inventor of Digital Pen
and Paper technology (DP&P), announces today that there
will be a session
at the prestigious 80th AHIMA Convention and Exhibit that
includes
presentation of the role of DP&P within Health Information
Management (HIM)
systems in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as its potential
contribution to enhancing usability, efficiency, and compliance
in the
design of Electronic Health Records (EHR). The convention,
considered a
premiere forum for HIM professionals, expects to draw more
than 4,000
attendees between October 11&16 at the Washington State
Convention & Trade
Center in Seattle. Anoto, and its partner Scantron, will
exhibit and
demonstrate digital pen and paper technology at booth #2406
during the
AHIMA Convention. The session, titled "Charting a New Course: How to Offer a Measurably Higher Level of Patient Care at Nursing Homes and Hospitals with New HIM Tools," will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in room 608-609, as part of the Educational Track on Long Term Care/Care in Community. It will be presented by Dr. Stephen R. Levinson, M.D. and Siobhan Sharkey, MBA, Principal of Health Management Strategies. Dr. Levinson is the author of the new AMA book "Practical EHR: Electronic Record Solutions for Compliance and Quality Care." Ms. Sharkey is the Principal of Health Management Strategies and has over 20 years of experience in health care clinical practice improvement. Dr. Levinson and Ms. Sharkey will illustrate how new methods of electronic charting can enable workflow redesign and quality improvement programs that facilitate significant benefits for illness prevention, improved documentation accuracy and compliance, increased data entry efficiency, and enhanced staff motivation and satisfaction. Ms. Sharkey is one of the project directors facilitating the implementation of a national program developed for the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), called "On-Time Quality Improvement for Long-Term Care." Effective documentation tools based on DP&P technology have helped this project to substantially reduce the occurrence of pressure ulcers in nursing home patients through the use of process-centered performance improvement. Dr. Levinson advocates that creative documentation solutions of this type can provide the tools physicians need to fulfill their electronic record requirements for usability, efficiency, compliance, data integrity, and promoting patient specific and visit-specific medical care and medical record documentation. He observes that, "Now is the time medical practices must insist that Health Information Technology (HIT) systems meet physicians' criteria for usable and effective software tools that help them promote and record optimal patient care." In this session he will specifically address the contribution of effective data integrity tools to achieve optimal workflow, individualized patient care, and meaningful medical record documentation.
