functionality. Extreme Networks® G48Tc and G48Te2 modules were tested for interoperability with the Avaya S8500 Server, Avaya G650 Media Gateways and Avaya's IP telephones. "The BlackDiamond 8800 modular switch keeps with our theme of offering enterprises versatile Gigabit performance and expansive Power over Ethernet options at the network edge," said Gregory Heath, director of convergence solutions for Extreme Networks. "With a modular switch that is suited for the converged edge and tested with Avaya's IP telephony, customers gain scalability that is required for deploying hundreds or thousands of IP handsets and similar edge devices easily and efficiently." Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows BlackDiamond 8800 series switches to support large converged and wireless LAN deployments. The BlackDiamond 8810 switch can scale to support up to 432 IP phones in a single chassis. The switch supports class 1, 2 and 3 phones as well as the emerging enhanced PoE standard, ePoE, when more than 15.4 watts are required by a device. The result is powerful voice and data support with scalable power and bandwidth capacity. Extreme Networks products were validated for interoperability through the Avaya DevConnect program -- an initiative to promote the development, compliance-testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party products that are compatible with Avaya's standards-based solutions. Extreme Networks, a platinum member of the DevConnect program, has achieved compliance for a broad portfolio of core to edge network infrastructure products. "Working with Extreme Networks provides customers with a wide range of high availability network infrastructure options that allow them to grow as they integrate IP communications," said Eric Rossman, vice president, developer relations and technical alliances, Avaya. "With these solutions, enterprises are better enabled to take advantage of the rich features of Unified Communications to increase workgroup productivity and improve interaction with their customers."
