CBS 3, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Reach Milestone as 100+ Buildings, Landmarks in Three States Go Pink for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(MARKET WIRE)--Oct 1, 2008 -- LIGHTS FOR THE CURE™, the local campaign begun in 2002 by CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to raise awareness about breast cancer, will reach a milestone this October as more than 100 buildings and landmarks in three states will participate in the campaign. Businesses and landmarks in the Philadelphia area, New Jersey and Delaware will turn the skyline pink for the seventh year in a row in an effort to encourage women to schedule a mammogram.

The lights go pink tonight, October 1 at sunset (6:43 p.m.) and most remain lit throughout the month as a reminder to stay vigilant in the fight for a cure.

Centre Square along with Claes Oldenburg's famous "Clothespin," The University of the Arts newly-lit Terra Hall, Willow Grove Park, Crozer-Keystone Health System, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center will join the campaign for the first time this year along with the entire Collingswood, New Jersey business district. Other landmarks include: Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles; LOVE Park Fountain; the Battleship New Jersey; Boathouse Row, Camden City Hall in New Jersey, and the Cira Centre which will display a 6-story pink ribbon in lights on the north and south sides of the building. Atlantic City will also participate, showing its colors on Friday, October 10th with 13 buildings participating.

"CBS 3 made a commitment to Susan G. Komen for the Cure 18 years ago that we would be in this fight with them to the end," says President and General Manager Michael Colleran, "and while we've seen a huge amount of progress since then, our work is not done yet."

"While there has been much good news in the fight against breast cancer in the last two decades, the fact remains that more than 2,000 women in Pennsylvania will die of this disease this year alone," says Elaine I. Grobman, executive director of the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "'Lights for the Cure' is a billboard reminder that is literally as big as the sky to get your mammograms."

CBS 3, led by its breast cancer team, "The Women of Eyewitness News," will be on-air and in the community with the message to stay vigilant in the fight against breast cancer throughout the month as part of the station's ongoing breast cancer awareness campaign.

--  Anchor Pat Ciarrocchi will host the American Cancer Society's "Think
    Pink" reception in Wilmington on October 2nd to celebrate buildings going
    pink in Delaware.  Ciarrocchi will also host a symposium being held by the
    Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure at CBS 3's studios on
    October 3rd.
--  Anchor Susan Barnett will host the New Jersey Race for the Cure at
    Great Adventure on Sunday, October 5.
--  Kathy Orr will broadcast live from Atlantic City on October 10 as that
    city goes pink to support the cause.
--  Susan Barnett, Stephanie Stahl and Kathy Orr will host Komen's annual
    Pink Tie Ball being held October 11th at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
--  The station will present "Ribbon of Hope," a half-hour special
    highlighting local efforts in the battle against breast cancer, on
    Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m.
--  CBS 3 will be on location as Collingswood, New Jersey goes pink with
    its business district's annual Cruise Night on October 16th.
--  The station will provide extensive coverage of the Breast Cancer 3-Day
    being held locally October 17-19.
