Vishay Releases Surface-Mount X7R MLCCs With Optional Polymer Terminations and X2 EMI Suppression Film Capacitors With Increased Voltage Rating to 310 VAC MALVERN, PA--(MARKET WIRE)--Sep 29, 2008 -- New capacitor products released this month by
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (VSH - News) include VJ HVArc
Guard®
surface-mount X7R multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs)
with optional
polymer terminations and the MKP series of X2 electromagnetic
interference
(EMI) suppression film capacitors. Vishay's VJ HVArc Guard surface-mount X7R MLCCs are now available with optional polymer terminations especially constructed to withstand higher levels of mechanical stress, thus reducing capacitor failures and saving warranty costs. The VJ HVArc Guard devices feature a unique, worldwide-patented internal design structure that prevents surface arc-over at high voltages. This design allows for higher capacitances than standard high-voltage MLCCs, and facilitates the use of smaller case sizes in high-voltage products, allowing for device miniaturization and reducing component cost. The capacitors feature capacitances ranging from 100 picofarads to 0.27 microfarads, and offer twice the voltage breakdown in air of standard products with voltage ratings from 250 VDC to 1000 VDC. The devices eliminate the need for conformal coating and can replace wire leaded through-hole capacitors. Optimized for applications including buck and boost dc-to-dc converters, voltage multipliers for flyback converters, and lighting ballast circuits, the MLCCs are intended for use in lighting systems and power supplies for medical, computer, motor control, construction and mining, and telecommunications applications. Link to product datasheet: http://www.vishay.com/doc?45057 Vishay's MKP X2 EMI suppression film capacitors feature an increased maximum mains voltage of 310 VAC and a wide range of lead pitches and capacitance values. While most standard EMI suppression film capacitors provide a voltage rating of 275 VAC to 305 VAC, Vishay's MKP 339 X2, MKP 338 2 X2, and MKP 336 2 X2 devices offer designers an increased voltage rating while continuing to meet safety approvals and maintaining the same compact dimensions. Utilizing the latest film technology to offer lead pitches from 7.5 mm to 27.5 mm, capacitance values from 1 nanofarad to 4.7 microfarads, and a permissible DC voltage of 630 V, the capacitors are optimized for standard across-the-line applications (50/60 Hz) in power supplies, electronic ballasts, EMI filters, CRT and LCD TVs and monitors, and white goods. Climatic-tested according to EN 60068-1 (55/110/56/B), the encapsulation of the devices consists of a flame-retardant UL-class 94 V-0 plastic case, which is epoxy resin-sealed. The lead (Pb)-free capacitors are RoHS compliant and feature tinned wire leads.
