BIOLASE Granted First Japanese Patent

Key Part of Strategy to Broaden Reach Throughout Northern Asia

IRVINE, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Sep 22, 2008 -- BIOLASE Technology, Inc. (BLTI - News), the world's leading dental laser company, announced today that it was recently granted a Japanese method and apparatus patent (Patent Number 4073036) with a total of 63 claims related to the use of lasers with water particles to cut and treat various types of tissue, hard or soft, for a variety of dental and medical applications.

"While we have had a number of recent successes in laser and consumable patents and global product launches, this is our first Japanese patent for Waterlase MD technology and applications," said Chief Executive Officer Jake St. Philip. "To date Waterlase® has made its initial entry into more than 50 countries. Gaining approval to sell Waterlase in Japan is a key part of a more focused and profitable expansion strategy into key international markets.
