205 Kilowatt Installation Officially Unveiled

GAITHERSBURG, MD--(MARKET WIRE)--Sep 9, 2008 -- Standard Solar Inc. has announced the completion of the installation of approximately 205 kilowatts of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the Department of Energy (DOE) in Washington, D.C. The DOE selected SunPower Corporation (SPWR - News), a Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of high-efficiency solar cells, solar panels, and solar systems, to design the installation and provide the solar panels used. SunPower's Premier Dealer in the Southeast, Standard Solar, led the installation that was completed in August.

"We are thrilled that the Department of Energy has made this investment in clean energy technology," noted Anthony Clifford, CEO and President of Standard Solar. "Solar technology is working today all over the world by harnessing the clean power of the sun. This show of support from DOE enhances our efforts across the country to create access to natural, reliable solar energy for every home and business in the nation."

The installation was completed smoothly and on time. It includes 891 SunPower® 230 watt solar modules that cover over 14,000 square feet of roof space -- about 1/3 of an acre. The panels have been active and producing solar electricity since August 1st, and each panel is rated to produce 230 watts of electricity at peak sunlight. Importantly, this solar system will offset over 270 tons of CO2 and other greenhouse gases annually, and, over the 30 year lifetime of the entire system, will be equivalent to planting 180 acres of trees.

SunPower's PowerGuard® is a patented photovoltaic roof tile assembly that delivers solar electricity to a building while also protecting its roof from the damaging effects of weather and ultraviolet rays. PowerGuard® tiles incorporate state-of-the-art PV modules backed with insulating polystyrene foam, turning the sun's energy into usable power while increasing thermal insulation and extending roof life.

"We set out to create a standard of quality in the solar industry and simplify the sale, delivery and installation of solar systems," said Standard Solar Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Lee Bristol. "Throughout the Mid-Atlantic demand for solar power is growing as homeowners, businesses and governments focus on the importance of using clean, safe solar power to save money and protect the environment."

The system at the Department of Energy will be officially unveiled on September 9th, 2008 in a ceremony with the Secretary of Energy, Samuel W. Bodman.
