UC4 Services Team Pull Out Stops to Modernize Bus Authority IT Scheduler

BELLEVUE, WA--(MARKET WIRE)--May 21, 2008 -- UC4 Software, a leading provider of workload automation and IT process optimization solutions, today announced that Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) has successfully implemented UC4 Workload Automation Suite, modernizing its core business application to benefit from a scalable, robust automation platform and ensure service level goals were met.

UC4 Workload Automation Suite has been deployed by OCTA to replace a legacy job scheduler that was embedded in its core Coach Operator application (ACORS). In order to ensure staff was not impacted by this upgrade, OCTA requested that UC4 delivered a solution that appeared transparent to end-users. As the installed scheduler was invoked using API calls from ACORS, UC4 Global Services Organization (GSO) was invited to build a set of custom interfaces for UC4 Workload Automation Suite that mapped those already used at OCTA.

"Our existing scheduler had developed a mind of its own. It needed replacing but at the same time we didn't want to impact our outfacing user group with changes. We told UC4 GSO consultants that we would like to use these APIs. It wasn't long before they got back to us and Ceceil Rufo came on-site with a simulation which she got running in our own environment," said Ray Riggins, Manager of Business Intelligence and Applications Support at OCTA. "Ceceil worked with us throughout the project and we are extremely happy with the service we have received from her and her fellow UC4 consultants."

OCTA has business critical deadlines that have to be met. Each day at 4pm, a "final board" needs to be posted showing the following days work schedule. Failure to do so can result in penalty payment to the union representing the 1200 Coach Operators employed by the authority. With UC4 Workload Automation Suite, OCTA makes sure that the many processes that need to run prior to the final board posting are completed in time. UC4 is also being used to enhance exception handling as well as automating end-user report distribution.

"We needed something that was very stable and very robust. With UC4 we are getting these things; we are also getting a solution that has been fully integrated with our business systems," said Riggins. "We are all very impressed with the level of response and support we have received from UC4."
