New La Rosa Authentic Mexican Kitchen Building Granted Higher-than-Expected Designation

BEND, OREGON--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 28, 2008 -- NorthWest Crossing, an award-winning mixed-use Central Oregon real estate development, today announced that one of its Neighborhood Center buildings has received its final certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Core and Shell (LEED-CS) Program at the Silver level. The building, which will be the new location for La Rosa Authentic Mexican Kitchen, was initially pursuing a standard certification but met the requirements for the higher silver-level designation.

"To receive a higher-level rating from LEED than we were initially pursuing was exciting for everyone involved in this project," said David Ford, general manager for NorthWest Crossing. "This certification just reinforces our commitment as a community, on both the residential and commercial sides, to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices."

The single-level, 3,000-square-foot building is located on the southeast corner of NW Crossing and Mt. Washington Drives in Bend. It was designed by Steele Associates, a LEED-accredited architectural firm.

LEED-CS is a green building rating system for designers, builders, developers and new building owners who want to address sustainable design for new core and shell construction. Core and shell covers base building elements such as structure, envelope and the HVAC system. The LEED-CS Rating System encourages the implementation of green design and construction practices in areas over which the developer has control. LEED-CS works to set up a synergistic relationship, which allows future tenants to capitalize on green strategies implemented by the developer.

This building also won the Grand Award for Green Building in the 2008 Awards of Excellence administered by the National Commercial Builders Council (NCBC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The Awards of Excellence program recognizes achievements in the national commercial building industry in design, market appeal, energy efficiency, challenges faced during building and overall success of the project.
