Plans for New Power Generation in North Carolina Could Increase Capacity by 27%, an Industrial Info News Alert

SUGAR LAND, TX--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 15, 2008 -- Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Developers are proposing more than 7,700 megawatts (MW) of new generation in North Carolina. If these projects come to fruition, the state's generation capacity could increase by more than 27%, bringing its capacity up from about 28,500 MW to about 36,200 MW. Expanding on its coal generation, Duke Energy Carolina LLC, a subsidiary of Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK - News) (Charlotte, North Carolina), has begun construction on a sixth unit with a capacity of 800 MW at its Cliffside Power Station.
