If you haven't got time for the pain, or the side effects brought on by painkillers, Adolor might be able to help. In keeping with the movement toward improved pain management (including the increased use of opioids like hydrocodone), the company is developing drugs that alleviate the side effects of some pain treatments. Adolor won FDA approval in 2008 for Entereg as a treatment for post-operative ileus, or bowel dysfunction in patients following bowel resection surgery; the condition is associated with the use of opioids used to treat post-operative pain. The company partnered with GlaxoSmithKline on the development of Entereg.
