Illinois Power, a unit of Ameren, lights up homes and businesses in the Land of Lincoln. The regulated utility, which operates as AmerenIP, serves 626,000 electricity customers and 427,000 natural gas customers. Illinois Power owns 40,000 circuit miles of electric transmission and distribution lines and more than 8,400 miles of gas transmission and distribution mains. To prepare for deregulation, the company has divested its fossil-fueled and nuclear power plant interests; it receives its power supply through contracts with generation companies and other utilities.
