MontaVista Software sees a bright future for Linux on the technological horizon. The company develops embedded Linux-based operating systems used to operate a variety of products, including automotive electronics, communications equipment, and television set-top boxes. MontaVista has more than 2,000 customers worldwide and partnered with such companies as ACCESS Systems America, Freescale Semiconductor, and Texas Instruments. Clients such as Emerson, Motorola, NASA, and NEC use the company's products to operate devices they built. In 2009 Cavium Networks agreed to acquire MontaVista Software for $50 million in cash and common stock.
