Select Medical provides inpatient medical rehabilitation at more than 85 long-term acute care hospitals in 25 states. These centers, usually located in leased space within general hospitals ("hospitals within hospitals"), specialize in treating severe ailments such as respiratory failure, spinal cord injury, and other conditions that require medically complex care over the long term. Most patients are admitted as transfers from general hospitals. The firm also runs five inpatient rehabilitation clinics and more than 940 outpatient rehab clinics across the US. Select Medical also offers contract rehab services at nursing homes and other locations.
