Jazztel has a gig in Spain -- the facilities-based telecommunications provider hopes to put the downbeat on former monopoly Telefónica as that country's first CLEC (competitive local-exchange carrier). The company operates a fiber-optic local access and backbone network and offers alternative local and long-distance voice services, including international connections, as well as data and Internet services. Jazztel holds licenses for fixed-wireless operations including a wireless local loop license in Spain through a majority stake in wireless consortium Banda 26.
