Asia Television (ATV) is a leading TV broadcaster serving audiences in Hong Kong. Its HOME channel offers Chinese-language programming while its WORLD channel serves English speakers. ATV also offers a satellite pay TV service (ATV Home Channel) in North America and has approval to beam its signal into the mainland. The company produces many of its own programs, which are distributed to more than 30 countries. Founded in 1957 as Rediffusion Television, the first TV station in Hong Kong, it became ATV in 1982. Businessman Payson Cha Mou-sing holds a controlling stake in ATV; snack foods magnate Tsai Eng Meng (Want Want China Holdings) is also a major shareholder.
