Once just a force in Spain, IBERDROLA has established itself as a major global player in the power industry over the past few years. In 2012 it was serving 31 million customers in Europe and the Americas, and it owned hydroelectric, fossil-fueled, nuclear, and renewable power generation facilities with a capacity of about 46,590 MW (56% of which was derived from hydrolectric or other green energy sources). It also has gas distribution operations in Spain. The company is putting a major focus on being the world leader in developing renewable energy plants, primarily wind power facilities, and had some 13,000 MW of installed capacity in 2011 and a project pipeline of more than 62,610 MW.
