Comau sure is hoping robots are the wave of the future. The subsidiary of the diversified Italian manufacturer Fiat Group makes automation systems for the aerospace and automotive industries. Its main products include assembly and welding equipment, sheet metal dies, handling systems, and molds used to form plastic. The company also manufactures large assembly-line robots. It divides its business into four units: injection molding and dies; powertrain systems; body welding and assembly; and robotics, final assembly, and service. In addition to Fiat, Comau's customers include Ford Motor.
