O what a tangled web Ahlstrom weaves! Formerly known as A. Ahlstrom, the company manufactures and sells a swath of web-forming technologies and fiber-based materials. It supplies two types of products: Fiber composites (filtration, glass, and industrial nonwovens and advanced nonwovens) and specialty papers (release and label papers and technical papers). Applications for its lineup include masking tape, automotive filters, self-adhesive labels, flexible packaging, and roofing. Since 1851 the Ahlstrom family has held an ownership interest; an initial public offering in 2006 shifted control to a holding company, created for 130-plus descendents of the company's founder.
