O what a tangled web Ahlstrom weaves! Formerly known as A. Ahlstrom, the company manufactures and sells a swath of web forming technologies and fiber-based materials. It straddles two divisions: Fiber Composites (home and personal nonwovens, filtration, glass and industrial nonwovens, and advanced nonwovens) and Specialty Papers (release and label papers and technical papers). Applications for its line include wipes, masking tape, coffee and automotive filters, self-adhesive labels, flexible packaging, and roofing. Since 1851, the Ahlstrom family has held an ownership interest; an initial public offering in 2006 shifted control to a holding company, created for over 130 descendents of the company's founder.
