Unlike the Greek philosopher for whom it's named, Thales (TAH-less) knows itself. Specifically, it knows information and communication systems vital to defense, aerospace, and security markets worldwide. France's largest defense company, Thales' Defense division includes airborne systems (intelligence/surveillance, missiles), land and joint systems (command and control systems, vehicle electronics, optronics, munitions), and air-defense (anti-missile systems, detection/identification systems). Aerospace offerings include avionics, air traffic management, and aircraft simulators. Lastly, Security includes network, communications, and financial transaction systems. The French government owns about 27% of Thales.
