Umicore's diversified business includes its Precious Metals Services unit (recycling and refining) and a Precious Metals Products and Catalysts segment (catalysts for automotive and specialty products). The company's Advanced Materials unit provides germanium and tellurium used by the electronics and optics industries. The unit also owns a 40% share of Element Six Abrasives, a joint venture with industrial diamond producer Element Six. In 2006 it formed a joint venture with Zinifex that combined the two companies' zinc businesses into the world's largest zinc producer, called Nyrstar.
