Scottish & Newcastle serves up Courage by the pint. Its beer division, Scottish Courage, is one of the top beer makers in both the UK and Europe, brewing the popular beers Courage, John Smith's, Kronenbourg, Newcastle Brown, among others. The company sells its brews in more than 60 countries, including the US and China. In addition, Scottish & Newcastle brews licensed beers such as McEwan's Export. It also distributes selected wines and spirits. The company has capitalized on the growing popularity of cider by introducing new flavors and brands such as Strongbow Sirrus, Bulmers Original, and Jacques. In 2008 the company accepted a $15.3 billion takeover offer from rival brewers, Heineken and Carlsberg.
