Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) provides an electronic trading exchange open to all health care providers, suppliers, and manufacturers that offers a forum to buy and sell supplies online. GHX aims to lower supply chain costs for its users by allowing them to perform transactions with multiple parties over one Internet connection, as well as by automating the purchasing process and reducing purchase order errors. The firm was founded in 2000 by a group of five health care manufacturers: Abbott Labs, Baxter International, GE Medical Systems, Johnson & Johnson, and Medtronic. Other companies -- including wholesalers, health care providers, and purchasing organizations -- have since become equity owners.
