Lakeshore Learning Materials aims to make learning fun. The company provides educational toys and classroom tools through about 50 retail stores in 22 states, as well as via its two mail-order catalogs and Web site. Products include furniture, games, art supplies, learning kits, text books, and teacher resource packets. Most of its educational materials are broken down by age group and subject. The company also offers items that address multicultural learning environments and special needs children as well as in-store workshops for teachers. Ethelyn Kaplan founded the company in 1954; her sons Michael (CEO) and Charles (VP Merchandising) and grandson Bo (President) run Lakeshore Learning Materials.
