Formed in 1921 to build a better thermometer, Terumo is one of Japan's largest health care suppliers. The company makes a wide range of medical products used in hospitals and the home, including disposable supplies (syringes and bandages), blood collection equipment (blood bags and transfusion sets), home blood-glucose monitors, IV and enteral nutrients, catheters, and dialyzers. It also makes vascular grafts (used to bypass clogged blood vessels) and heart-lung machines used in heart bypass surgery. And yes, it still makes thermometers, too. In addition to its headquarters in Japan, Terumo operates subsidiaries in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. It sells its products in some 150 countries worldwide.
