Since then Hikari Tsushin has evolved into a cell phone and Internet service provider and distributor, a life insurance agency, and a seller of office equipment, such as copiers, fax machines, and telephones. The company's e-machitown subsidiary provides Web hosting services in Japan, and Newton Financial Consulting sells medical insurance policies to individiuals. CEO Yasumitsu Shigeta founded Hikari Tsushin in 1988, when he was 21 years old. The billionaire is consistenly listed among the world's richest people.
