It would be silly to imagine that Silicon Image's chips only produce pretty pictures. Silicon Image designs and sells a variety of integrated circuits, including digital video controllers, receivers, transmitters, and processors that are built into personal computers, set-top boxes, and DVD players. Its chips also are found in video systems, such as flat-panel displays and cathode-ray tubes, as well as storage networking devices. Top customers of the fabless semiconductor company include big Asian distributors. Silicon Image primarily outsources production of its chips to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. Customers located outside the US account for more than 80% of Silicon Image's sales.
