OpenTV develops software used by cable and satellite TV operators to offer their subscribers enhanced interactive content and services. Its applications allow viewers to use the remote control to not only surf TV channels and control camera angles and instant replays during sporting events, but also access email, download audio and video files from the internet, and complete shopping and banking transactions. The company also develops the middleware used in set-top boxes. Digital TV systems provider Kudelski acquired a controlling stake in OpenTV from Liberty Capital Group in early 2007.
