Celera spent years unwrapping the secrets of genetics, and now it is ready to do something with all that it has learned. Celera cleared a major hurdle when it mapped the human genome, but the firm is now focused on developing diagnostics and providing clinical services. The company's Berkeley HeartLab (BHL) business provides cardiology testing and disease management services. Its products business develops and manufactures the molecular diagnostic products that it markets to detect, characterize, monitor, and select treatment for a full range of diseases and genetic mutations, including HIV and cystic fibrosis. Formerly part of Applied Biosystems, Celera split off as an independent company in 2008.
