Nautilus wants to pump you up. The company makes and markets fitness equipment for commercial and home use. Its specialty includes strength equipment, free weights and benches, and exercise machines, such as stair steppers and indoor cycles. Nautilus makes its products under the Bowflex, Nautilus, StairMaster, Schwinn, Universal, and Trimline brand names. Bowflex equipment, which uses special power rods to provide resistance, is marketed to home users through TV commercials, the Internet, and direct mail. In 2008, Nautilus exited the fitness apparel market -- an industry niche in which it was hoping to flex its muscle. Now the firm is looking to unload its commercial business.
