For Infineon Technologies, memories of the volatile memory device market are starting to fade. In 2006 the German chip maker spun off its Memory Products unit as a stand-alone business, Qimonda. The vagaries of the DRAM chip market convinced Infineon to focus on more stable product fields. The company makes semiconductors for myriad automotive, computing, communications, and industrial applications. Former parent Siemens remains one of Infineon's top customers. The Asia/Pacific region is Infineon's biggest geographic market, accounting for nearly half of its sales.
