The Japanese yen for mobility means business for NTT DoCoMo. The mobile phone carrier is one of the world's largest wireless network operators in terms of subscribers, behind global leader Vodafone. NTT DoCoMo has about 56 million subscribers to its FOMA-branded wireless voice network in Japan (giving it about half of market share), while about 49 million customers subscribe to its i-mode mobile Internet services. The company also sells wireless telephone handsets under the DoCoMo brand and it provides emergency satellite services primarily for maritime use. NTT DoCoMo is the wireless spinoff of Japan's leading telecommunications carrier Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT); NTT owns two-thirds of NTT DoCoMo.
