Advance Auto Parts (AAP) has turned auto parts retailing into less of a one-company race. The company is now the #2 chain (AutoZone is #1) after its acquisition of Sears, Roebuck's Western Auto Supply and Discount Auto Parts. It carries brand-name replacement parts, batteries, maintenance items, and automotive chemicals. Sales to commercial customers, including garages, service stations, and auto dealers, account for about 30% of revenues. The retailer operates more than 3,200 stores under the AAP and Discount Auto Parts names in about 40 states. It also runs Western Auto and AAP locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
