SK Hynix (formerly Hynix Semiconductor) may not live in the past, but its business is all in the memories -- the semiconductor memories, that is. SK Hynix makes DRAM and NAND flash memories for computers, mobile phones, and televisions, as well as the growing number of devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs innovated by the IT industry. The company battles to retain its spot among the world's top makers of DRAM chips; it trails Samsung Electronics and jockeys for market share with Elpida Memory and Micron Technology. SK Hynix operates three factories in South Korea and some 30 sales offices in more than 15 countries. South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom bought a 21% stake in the company in 2012.
