Community Newspaper Holdings (CNHI) owns more than 140 daily, weekly, and semi-weekly publications serving smaller markets in about 25 states. It has a large presence in Indiana, Oklahoma, and Texas; the company's Eagle Tribune Publishing Company subsidiary publishes the Eagle-Tribune in Massachusetts. In addition to publishing, the company runs companion Web sites for many of its papers and it owns four TV stations. Ralph Martin, formerly with the newspaper operations of Thomson Reuters (then known as Thomson Corporation), founded CNHI in 1997. The company is backed by state pension manager Retirement Systems of Alabama.
