It takes a lot of MUSL to produce some of the largest jackpots in the world. Made up of 30 state lotteries, as well as those of the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands, the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) operates the popular Powerball drawing, which has produced some of the world's largest jackpot prizes. Through MUSL, states can combine their buying power to achieve large jackpots and drive lottery sales. The not-for-profit association, which pays out half of its ticket sales in prizes and uses the other half to help fund each member/state's legislature's projects, allows the member/states to share the cost of lottery operation.
