Hitachi High-Technologies was formed in 2001 by the combination of trading company Nissei Sangyo with the former Instruments Group and Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment Group of Hitachi. The company makes inspection systems and other semiconductor production equipment, as well as analytical and clinical instruments, such as electron microscopes. As part of the reorganization of the larger Hitachi empire, Hitachi High-Technologies in 2004 absorbed Hitachi Electronics Engineering, which makes inspection systems used in semiconductor and LCD production. The company also sells computers and peripherals, steel and plastics, silicon wafers, and optical components, among other materials and products.
