For designing complicated embedded electronics, you may need a few nips of MIPS. MIPS Technologies develops microprocessors. High-end 32- and 64-bit RISC processors based on MIPS designs may be found in hundreds of millions of electronics products, such as cable modems, digital still cameras, laser printers, network routers, and set-top boxes. The company licenses its RISC technology to semiconductor makers, which then design and sell MIPS-based processors to electronics manufacturers. MIPS Technologies gets more than half of its sales outside the US.
