MDS is on a mission to help medical professionals diagnose and treat disease. The life sciences company makes medical isotopes for applications in molecular imaging, cancer treatment radiology, and product sterilization. Prior to 2009 MDS provided a host of products and services for the development of drugs and other forms of health care treatment through three business units. However, through a major restructuring that year, the company began paring its business units down to just the MDS Nordion line of medical isotopes, which are marketed through a global sales force. MDS' customers include drug companies, medical device makers, and educational and government institutions.
