EnerSys' battery operations are charging off in different directions. The company makes stationary industrial batteries that provide uninterruptible power and backup power for electronic systems and motive power batteries for big equipment, such as forklifts. Other products include battery chargers and accessories. Its Hawker subsidiary makes batteries with industrial and military applications. Company management and Morgan Stanley acquired Yuasa's Motive Power and Stationary Power operations in 2000 and renamed the company EnerSys. The battery manufacturer has more than 10,000 customers around the world, reached through direct sales or distributors. European customers account for half of sales.
