Stars are formed by fusion processes, and so sometimes are companies. Astellas Pharma was born after Japanese pharmaceutical firms Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical and Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Company merged in 2005, creating one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Japan. Main products include gastritis treatment Gaster, hypertension therapy Micardis, urology treatment Vesicare, organ transplant immunosuppressant Prograf, and cholesterol drug Lipitor (sold in Japan via an agreement with Pfizer). Astellas' products (including those under development) include cardiovascular, central nervous system, oncology, diabetes, infectious disease, inflammation/immunology, gastroenterology, and urology therapies.
