After its $7.7 billion acquisition of Daiichi Pharmaceutical, Sankyo is continuing to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the newly formed Daiichi Sankyo holding company, which becomes the #2 pharma company in Japan, behind Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. Sankyo develops its drugs through an extensive independent network of laboratories in Europe, South America, and the US. In addition to prescription pharmaceuticals, the company makes OTC medications, veterinary drugs, food ingredients, and agricultural chemicals.
